Where we came from and what we are trying to do
Rung Lab was founded in Chiang Mai by a small group of practitioners who had spent years working with machine learning systems in research and industry settings. The city had drawn each of them for its own reasons — the slower pace, the community of independent educators, the proximity to universities with serious technical programmes. What brought them together was a shared frustration: there were very few places where working professionals could develop a practical, grounded understanding of applied AI without enrolling in a full-time degree or sitting through courses that skipped too quickly from concept to marketing claim.
The name comes from the Thai word รุ่ง (rung), which carries the sense of a new day beginning — the quiet light before sunrise settles into morning. It felt like an honest description of where most learners find themselves when they start engaging seriously with AI: not in the dark, but not yet fully oriented either. The school is meant to help people find their footing carefully.
From the beginning, sessions have been built around small groups. The limit exists because the teaching depends on conversation — on participants being able to raise doubts, compare approaches, and ask the kind of questions that only make sense once you have been working with a particular problem for a week. Lectures can scale. That kind of exchange cannot.
Programmes are part-time by design. The people who come to Rung Lab are, almost without exception, already doing something else — teaching at a university, running a small workshop, working as a data analyst. Asking them to stop working in order to learn would be the wrong trade. Instead, the schedule builds the learning into the edges of a working week, and the projects participants choose are connected to work they are already doing or considering.
The school has no interest in describing AI as a force that will transform every profession overnight. The programmes are careful about what current tools can and cannot do, about the conditions under which a model works well and the conditions under which it does not, and about the effort required to take a working prototype into something that holds up over time. That honesty is the foundation of everything we teach.

Prapha Saengchan

Prapha spent eight years building visual inspection systems for manufacturing in Chiang Mai and Lamphun before joining Rung Lab to teach. She leads the Computer Vision Track and the Applied Vision Systems Programme.
Wiroj Kanjanawit

Wiroj taught computer science at Chiang Mai University for twelve years before shifting his focus to curriculum design for professional learners. He designed the AI for Educators Cohort and facilitates each session himself.
Nattaya Phornprapha

Nattaya coordinates cohort scheduling, handles enquiries, and manages the small-group office hours that run alongside each programme. She is usually the first person you will speak with.

How we try to do the work well
These are not a list of credentials. They are the practical commitments that shape how each programme runs.
Data privacy in practice
Participants are taught to handle data carefully from the first session. No datasets containing personal information are used in exercises without explicit consent and clear legal grounding.
Curriculum reviewed each cohort
Applied AI tools and practices shift quickly. We review what we teach before each new cohort begins, removing content that is no longer accurate and adding material that reflects current practice.
Practitioners teaching practice
Instructors at Rung Lab have built and operated the kinds of systems they teach. We do not bring in people to describe tools they have only read about.
Capped cohort sizes
Cohorts are kept small to preserve the conversational quality of sessions. If a programme is full, we will tell you and suggest the next available cohort date rather than opening additional seats.
Accurate claims only
We do not promise outcomes we cannot reasonably support. Programme descriptions state what the work involves, not what a learner will necessarily achieve as a result of completing it.
Open to questions before enrolment
Prospective participants are welcome to ask questions, request a call, or attend an information session before committing. We would rather help someone decide a programme is not right for them than enrol them under misaligned expectations.
Applied AI education for working professionals in Thailand
Rung Lab sits at 27 Nimmanhaemin Road in Chiang Mai — a street that has long been a gathering point for independent educators, designers, and practitioners of various kinds. That location is not incidental. The school is part of a broader ecosystem of people doing careful, thoughtful work, and it draws on that environment for its sessions and its sense of pace.
The three current programmes address distinct needs. The AI for Educators Cohort focuses on the concerns that classroom and lecture-hall practitioners actually face: how to discuss AI with students fairly, how to think about assessment in a period of rapid change, and how to separate useful tools from ones that add friction without benefit. The Computer Vision Track gives learners from technical backgrounds a structured entry into working with image data — covering the fundamentals that are often skipped in shorter courses. The Applied Vision Systems Programme takes the longest view, supporting learners through the full arc of building and operating a small system in a realistic setting.
All three programmes share a commitment to working at the pace the material requires, to keeping groups small enough for genuine conversation, and to letting each participant shape the applied portion of the work around something that matters to them. That is what Rung Lab is.
